Ninth inning home run seals it

Kansas City, Kan. -- Pittsburg State needed late inning heroics, but advanced to play another day with a 3-1 win over Central Oklahoma in the MIAA Baseball Tournament.

For the Gorillas Ryan Ventura went four for five with a ninth inning two run home run that put his team ahead. Luke Bordewick hit a solo home run of his own in the fourth inning to tie the game. George Brandecker went eight strong striking out five while allowing only seven hits and an unearned run. Ryan McKay came on to pitch the ninth and struck out the side to earn his fifth save.

For the Bronchos Tyler Crabtree and Matt Johnson were both two for four. Matt Malloy finished two for three on the night. Crabtree drove in the run while Cameron Mavroulis scored the lone UCO run. Landon Hallam worked 6.1 innings allowing just one run while striking out eight.

Central Oklahoma is eliminated from the MIAA Tournament while Pittsburg State will await the loser of the Missouri Southern/Missouri Western game tomorrow morning.
