Kansas City, Mo. – One series came to an end as the rest got underway in the second day of the MIAA Baseball Tournament.

Central Oklahoma 9, Emporia State 2
Central Oklahoma got five runs in the first inning and did not look back as a win over Emporia advanced them to the next round of the MIAA Tournament.

For the Bronchos Matt Johnson was two for three with four runs driven in. Tyler Crabtree went three for four and scored three runs. On the mound Mason Justice threw a complete game striking out seven and allowing just one earned run.

For the Hornets Zack Carlson hit a solo home run and Jordan Slade scored the other ESU run.

Central Oklahoma will now await the winner of the Missouri Western/Fort Hays State at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. 

Missouri Western 9, Fort Hays State 2
Missouri Western got six runs over their final two innings as they moved up 1-0 in their series with Fort Hays State.

For the Griffons Bubba Dotson had a home run and drove in two runs. Michael Schulze went two for five and scored three runs. Kyle Simpson and Jimmy Smelcer each drove in two runs. On the mound Brandon Simmons pitched seven innings striking out eight for his tenth win of the season.

For the Tigers Horace Johnson went two for four and rove in the only run for FHSU. Kelton Rule went two for four and scored the only run.

The two teams will play game two tomorrow at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph, Mo.

Northeastern State 4, Missouri Southern 2
Northeastern State got runs in the eight and ninth inning as they moved up 1-0 in their series against Missouri Southern.

For the RiverHawks Trent Wilkins went two for three and drove in two runs. On the mound Kyle Shambaught went 7.2 inning striking out four to pick up the win. Trevor Walch went the final 1.1 to pick up the save.

For the Lions Will Wagner and Nick Doughty each had an RBI as Doughty hit a solo home run. On the mound Brett Abell went 8.1 innings allow just one earned run in the loss.

The two teams will play again tomorrow in a potential double header beginning at 12 p.m.

Pittsburg State 11, Central Missouri 3
In the first of two games on the day Pittsburg State used a five run fourth inning to take a 1-0 series lead over Central Missouri.

For the Gorillas Brad Foss was two for five and drove in three runs. Tory Stoffregen went two for four and scored three runs. Ryan Ventura and Adam Lastimado each scored two runs and drove in two runs. Matt Stalcup went seven innings to pick up the victory.

For the Mules John Oropeza had a solo home run. Samuel Domingue and Barrett Noirfalies each drove in a run.

Central Missouri 16, Pittsburg State 4
Pittsburg State scored the first 16 runs of the game before Central Missouri used 16 unanswered to even the series at 1-1.

For the Mules Trevor Jones was three for three with a home run and two RBI while scoring three runs. Kyle Grieshaber was three for four and drove in four runs. Jon Cotter scored three runs, going three for three and driving in two runs. On the mound Andrew Urban threw 6.2 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory.

For the Gorillas Evan Thomas was two for three and scored and drove in a run. Ryan Ventura also went two for three with a run scored.
