Overland Park, Kan. -- The first round of the MIAA Softball Tournament found it's way to completion through the rain before round two was postponed. Play will resume tomorrow at 11 a.m. from the Blue Valley Recreation Complex in Overland Park, Kan.
Emporia State 6, Northeastern State 1
Fourth seeded Emporia State used a three-run second inning to pull away from fifth seeded Northeastern State 6-1 in the tournament's opening round.
Taylor Zordel was two for four with two runs driven in during the game for the Hornets. Kate Huffman went three for three with two RBI for ESU as well. In the circle Karley Schmelzer allowed just five hits while striking out 11 to pick up the win. For the RiverHawks Cayce Coleman went two for four and drove in the teams only run.
Emporia State will face Central Oklahoma at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning while Northeastern State will take on Northwest Missouri.
Fort Hays State 8, Pittsburg State 0
For Fort Hays State Maddie Holub threw a no-hitter and offense went for three runs in the fourth to win 8-0 over Pittsburg State.
For the Tigers Amanda Vaupel had two runs driven in and Maddie Holub scored two runs and also drove one in. Holub allowed just four baserunners strikeouts out five and not allowing a hit.
Fort Hays State will face Missouri Western at 11 a.m. tomorrow and Pittsburg State will take on Truman.
Missouri Western 5, Truman 3
Missouri Western scored three runs over the final two innings to wrap up a 5-3 win over Truman.
For the Griffons Maegan Roemmich was two for three with two runs driven in. Bre Fleschner went three for three with three runs scored. Jackie Bishop went seven innings striking out seven and allowing only three runs. For the Bulldogs Kelsey Bollman drove in two runs and Laura Miller went two for four with an RBI.
Missouri Western will face Fort Hays State at 11 a.m. tomorrow and Truman will face Pittsburg State.
Central Oklahoma 5, Northwest Missouri 0
Central Oklahoma used a four run fourth inning to pull out a 5-0 victory over Northwest Missouri.
For the Bronchos Tori Collet went one for three and drove in three runs in the game. In the circle Kalynn Schrock allowed just three hits while striking out nine to pick up the victory. For the Bearcats Jordan Ereth, Candace Miller and Kristen Uthe each had a single hit.
Central Oklahoma will face Emporia State at 11 a.m. tomorrow while Northwest Missouri will take on Northeastern State.
