Tournament shifts to Municipal Auditorium startin on March 7

Kansas City, Mo. -- With the men's first round in the books the scene shifts to Kansas City, Mo where the quarterfinals are on tap for Municipal Auditorium.

#9 Missouri Southern vs. #1 Fort Hays State (March 7 at 12 p.m.)
Ninth seeded Missouri Southern will face off with top seeded Fort Hays in the quarterfinals from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. Fort Hays State enters the post-season tournament with a 19-7 overall record and went 13-5 in MIAA play. Dwayne Brunson is leading the way for the Tigers with 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Lance Russell is averaging 13.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest. MIAA Freshman of the Year Craig Nicholson is averaging 13.8 points and a league best 7.0 assists per game. Missouri Southern is 13-14 after a win at ESU in the first round and finished 7-11 in league play. Marquis Addison is leading the way for the Lions with 17.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Jordan Talbert is averaging 13.0 points and a team best 7.6 rebounds. R.J. Leverette is leading the team in assists averaging 3.3 per ballgame.

The two teams met just once this season with Fort Hays State winning 83-69 on Feb. 2 in Hays, Kan. Carson Konrade and Lance Russell led the way for the Tigers with 18 points each while Dwayne Brunson pulled down six rebounds.

The winner of the game will face the winner of the Northwest Missouri/Northeastern State game at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 from Municipal Auditorium.

#5 Northwest Missouri vs. #4 Northeastern State (March 7 at 2:15 p.m.)
Fifth seeded Northwest Missouri will face fourth seeded Northeastern State in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA Tournament at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. Northeastern State enters the post-season with a 19-7 overall record and went 12-6 in MIAA play. The RiverHawks are led by Bryton Hobbs who is averaging 18.2 points and 5.0 assists per game. Jermaine Bransford is just shy of averaging a double-double with 16.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest. Ethan Anderson is averaging 10.6 points per game and 4.0 boards per game. Northwest Missouri is now 19-9 after defeating MWSU in the opening round and went 11-7 in the league this season. DeAngelo Hailey is leading the way for the Bearcats with 14.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Dillon Starzl is averaging 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest. Alex Sullivan is averaging 11.0 points per game and Matt Wallace 4.8 assists per contest.

The two teams met one time earlier this season with Northwest Missouri winning 73-72 on Jan. 31 in Maryville, Mo. Conner Crooker led the way for the Bearcats with 24 points while Grant Cozad pulled down seven rebounds. For the RiverHawks Landon DeMasters scored 19 points and Ethan Anderson pulled down eight rebounds.

The winner of the game will face the winner of the Fort Hays State/Missouri Southern match-up at 12 p.m. on March 9 at Municipal Auditorium.

#7 Pittsburg State vs. #2 Central Missouri (March 7 at 6 p.m.)
Seventh seeded Pittsburg State will face second seeded Central Missouri in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA Tournament from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. Central Missouri enters the post-season with a 19-7 overall record and went 13-5 in league play. First Team All-MIAA selection Dominique Long leads the Mules averaging 15.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest. Widgett Washington is averaging 12.0 points and 5.2 assists per game. Charles Hammork is averaging 11.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Pittsburg State is 18-9 after a win over TSU and went 10-8 in the league this season. Kaleb Porter is leading the way for the Gorillas with 14.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per contest. JaVon McGee is averaging 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. MIAA Defensive Player of the Year Marky Nolen is averaging 10.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per ballgame.

The two teams met on Jan. 12, 2013 with Central Missouri winning 80-73 in Warrensburg, Mo. Widgett Washington led the way for the Mules scoring 22 points while Reggie Stallings pulled down nine rebounds. For the Gorillas, Kaleb Porter had 16 points and Rico Pierrevilus had 10 rebounds.

The winner of the game will face the winner of the Washburn/Central Oklahoma game at 2:15 p.m. on March 9 from Municipal Auditorium.

#6 Central Oklahoma vs. #3 Washburn (March 7 at 8:15 p.m.)
Sixth seeded Central Oklahoma will face third seeded Washburn in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. Washburn enters the post-season with a 19-7 overall record and were 12-6 in conference action. They are led by MIAA Player of the Year Will McNeill who is averaging 19.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Martin Mitchell enters the week averaging 13.5 points and 3.4 assists per contest. Bobby Chipman is leading the way on the boards averaging 7.8 rebounds per contest. For the Bronchos, First Team All-MIAA Selection Josh Gibbs is averaging 17.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. Spencer Smith is averaging 13.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Jamell Cormier joins them in double figures with 11.0 points per game this season.

The two teams met on Jan. 5 with Central Oklahoma winning 72-67 in Edmond, Okla. Josh Gibbs had a double-double for the Bronchos with 16 points and ten rebounds. For the Ichabods Martin Mitchell had 21 points and pulled down six rebounds as did Christian Ulsaker.

The winner will face the winning team from the Pittsburg State/Central Missouri game at 2:15 p.m. on March 9 from Municipal Auditorium.
