Kansas City, Mo. -- The MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled to get underway starting on Friday from the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg, Mo.
The Meet
The MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on February 22-24, 2013 at the Multi-Purpose Building in Warrensburg, Mo. Central Missouri is the reigning MIAA men’s champion and Lincoln won last year’s women’s championship. Last year’s high point winner for the men was Laban Sialo of Central Missouri and for the women Lindsay Lettow also of Central Missouri.
Pentathlon - The one day event will get underway for the women on Friday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. Central Missouri’s Erin Alewin has the nations top score of 4,152 on the year which is an automatic qualifier to the National Championships. Zoe Sharplin, also of Central Missouri has the second best mark with 3,519 points which ranks her fifth nationally. Central Missouri also has the league’s third best mark which is 3,488 set by Madison Smith.
Heptathlon - The two day event for the men is scheduled to get underway for the men on Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. The top mark in the league belongs to Central Missouri’s Brent Vogel who is an automatic qualifier with 5,487 points. Dillon Schrodt of Nebraska-Kearney has a mark of 4,921 points which ranks 11th in the nation. Finally Jayce Thomas of MIssouri Southern ranks 12th nationally with 4,916 points earlier this season.
In the Field
Shot Put - The
MIAA men’s shot put is scheduled to get underway on Saturday, Feb. 23 at around 1:45 p.m. The current MIAA leader on the men’s side is Fort Hays State’s Max Alonso with a throw of 57’ 8.25’’. Alonso’s throw currently ranks fifth in the nation and is a provisional qualifier to the NCAA Divsion II Championships. Behind Alonso’s leading throw is Missouri Southern’s Seth Hackney who has a throw of 55’ 7.75’’ which is also a provisional qualifier ranks ninth in the nation. Zack Thompson of Central Missouri ranks third in the league and 11th in the nation with a throw of 55’ 2.25’’.
The
women’s shot put will be contested around 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24. The current MIAA leader is Kylie Cornman of Missouri Southern with a throw of 47’ 8.5’’ that ranks eighth in the nation and is a provisional qualifier. With the second best throw of the season in the MIAA is Nebraska-Kearney’s MJ Massanet who has a throw of 44’ 11.5’’ to rank 24th in the nation and provisionally qualify. The third best throw belongs to Charissa Wall of Pittsburg State whose throw of 44’ 0.75’’ ranks 29th in the nation and is a provisional qualifier.
Weight Throw - In the
men’s weight throw the top distance of the year belongs to Mitchell Heady of LIndenwood who has a throw of 60’6” which would rank him 10th in the nation. Kyle Glidden of Nebraska-Kearney has the second best throw of the season with a mark of 58’ 4.75” which ranks 18th in the nation and is a provisional qualifier. The third best throw belongs to John Talbert of Pittsburg State who has a throw of 58’ 0.5” which ranks 19th nationally and is a provisional qualifier. The men’s weight throw is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24.
In the
women’s weight throw Truman’s Rachel McCarroll has the top throw of 59’ 4” which ranks 11th in the nation and is a provisional qualifier. Brooke Swearingin ranks second in the league with a throw of 55’ 0.75” which ranks her 22nd in the nation. Larissa Richards of Pittsburg State has a throw of 53’ 1.75: on the year to rank 35th in the nation and third in the MIAA. The women’s weight throw is schedule for 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23.
Pole Vault - The
men’s pole vault is scheduled to begin around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. Pittsburg State’s Colbie Snyder is the second best pole vaulter in the nation this season with a mark of 16’ 9.5” which is an automatic qualifier. He is followed by his fellow Gorilla Jeff Piepenbrink who has a vualt of 16’ 4.75” which ranks ninth in the nation. Mark Seeba of Nebraska-Kearney is 11th in the nation with a vault of 16’ 3.25” on the year.
In the
women’s pole vault the event in scheduled to get underway at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. Missouri Southern’s Sydney Haase has the best vault of the year going 12’ 4” to rank 12th in the nation earlier this year. Brittany Kallenberger of Central Missouri ranks 15th in the nation with a vault of 12’ 2” this season. Missouri Southern’s Melanie Bower and Emporia State’s Maggie Wilson are tied for 16th nationally with a mark of 12’ 1.5” on the year.
High Jump - The
men’s high jump is schedule to get underway around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. Emporia State’s Briar Ploude has the nation’s top jump on the year which has automatically qualified him for the National Championships going 7’ 3.75” on the year. Devin Claypool of Central Missouri has the second best jump on the year in the MIAA, ranking 10th in the nation, going for 6’ 10.75” at the UCM Relays. Marcus Calleja of Emporia State is 11th in the nation with a jump of 6’ 10.25” earlier on the season.
In the
women’s high jump Central Missouri’s Erin Alewine, also the nation’s top pentathlete, has the nation’s fourth best high jump for 5’ 8.5”. Central Oklahoma’s Lacey Rhodes has the league’s second best jump of 5’ 8” which ranks seventh in the nation. Shari Kaye Campbell of Lincoln ranks ninth in the nation with a jump of 5’ 7.25” this year. The even is schedule to get underway on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m.
Triple Jump - The
men’s triple jump is scheduled to go off at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. Darion Boure of Missouri Southern has the best jump in the league this season of 49’ 5” which ranks ninth in the nation. Nick Betts of Fort Hays State ranks 16th in the nation with a jump of 48’ 4” on the year. Dwayne Wall of Emporia State has the league’s third best jump of 47’ 9” which ranks him 21st in the nation.
In the
women’s triple jump Shari Kaye Campbell has the league’s best mark with a jump of 39’ 8.5” which is 10th in the nation. Danielle Newman of Lincoln has a jump of 39’ 5” which is 14th in the nation. Brittani Reagan of Missouri Southern has a jump of 39’ 2.25” which ranks her 17th in the nation this year. The event is scheduled for a 1:45 p.m. start on Feb. 23.
Long Jump - The
men’s long jump is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24. Pittsburg State’s Keenan Soles has the top mark in the league, and third best marking in the nation, jumping 24’ 5.75” at the MSSU Early Bird Open. Meelis Siimson of Central Missouri jumped 23’ 8.75” at the Iowa State Classic which ranks 14th nationally. Kyle Utsey of Pittsburg State has a jump of 23’ 6.75” which is the nation’s 19th best jump.
In the
women’s long jump Central Missouri’s Eric Alewine is an automatic qualifier and has the nation’s second best jump of 19’ 6”. Nickeisha Beaumont of Lincoln has the nations third best jump of 19’ 5.25” and has twice been named the MIAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. Emporia State’s Peyton Weiss has the third best seed mark coming into the event. The event is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start on Sunday, Feb. 24.
On the Track
5,000m - The finals in the
men's 5000m is scheduled for a7:35 p.m. start on Feb. 23. Laban Sialo of Central Missouri has the tenth best time in the nation running 14:19.93 at the Iowa State Classic. Phillip Miller of Southwest Baptist is third in the league with a time of 14:43.30 which ranks 31st in the nation. Derek Lee of Southwest Baptist has the third fastest time in the field.
The
women’s 5000m is scheduled for start on the track at 8:10 p.m. on Feb. 23. Ashley Wolkomir of Southwest Baptist ran the 5,000m in 17:45.79 at the Nebraska-Tune-up. Third in the league is Karen Grauel of Truma State who ran a 17:49.28 mark earlier in the year. The third fastest seed time coming into the race belong to Jordan Esry of Northwest Missouri.
Distance Medley Relay - The
men’s distance medley relay is scheduled for an 8:35 start on Saturday, Feb. 23. Southwest Baptist has the top time in the league and 13th in the nation. The league’s second best time belongs to Missouri Southern and Fort Hays State has the third best time.
The
women’s distance medley relay is scheduled for an 8:50 p.m. start on Feb. 23. Missouri Southern is the top team in the league with the 14th best time in the nation. Lincoln is the league’s second best with the 16th best time in the nation. The league’s third best time belongs to Southwest Baptist this year.
Mile - The
men’s mile run is scheduled for a 12:15 start on Feb. 24. Tanner Fruit of Nebraska-Kearney has the top time in the league with a 4:09.41 time which ranks 16th in the nation. Laban Sialo ran a time of 4:09.54 which is 17th in the nation. Alex Hendee has a time of 4:11.59 which is third in the league and 31st in the nation.
The
women’s mile run is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start on Feb. 24. Twishana Williams of Lincoln is currently ranked 12th in the nation with a 4:55.47 time. Rachel Schrader of Missouri Southern has a time of 5:08.17 which is second in the league and Krenda McClure of Southwest Baptist ran a 5:08.66 at the Jayhawk Classic.
60H - The
men’s 60m hurdles final is schedule to start off at 12:50 p.m. on the track on Feb. 24. Andrew Etheridge of Emporia State has an automatic qualifying time of 7.90 which ranks fourth in the nation. Sabiel Anderson of Lincoln has a mark of 7.92 from the Indiana Relays earlier this season which ranks sixth in the nation. Gannon Mack of Emporia State is the tenth fastest 60m hurdler in the nation with a 8.00 mark at the Iowa State Classic.
The
women’s 60m hurdles final is scheduled for 12:55 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24. Anna-Kay James of Lincoln has the nation’s sixth best time running 8.50 at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. Nikki Wetstein of Emporia State is 14th in the nation with a 8.67 time at the KSU open. Juneille Barker is the third fastest in the league with an 8.69 time which ranks 16th in the nation.
60m - The
men’s 60m final is scheduled to start on the track at 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 24. Romel Lewis of Lincoln is automatically qualified with a time of 6.72 which is third in the nation. Deneko Brown of Southwest Baptist ran a time of 6.79, ninth in the nation. Jeffrey Fraley of Missouri Southern has a time of 6.80 on the year with ranks 12th in the nation.
The
women’s 60m final is scheduled for a 1:05 p.m. start on the track on Feb. 24. Latoya King of Lincoln is automatically qualifed for nationals with a 7.37 mark which ranks first in the nation. Madison Berryman of Central Oklahoma has a 7.64 time on the year which is second in the league and 16th in DII. Yanique Ellington of Lincoln has the nation’s 20th best time with a 7.67 mark.
400m - The
men’s 400m race is scheduled for a 1:15 start on Feb. 24. William Shell of Southwest Baptist has the nation’s third best time running 47.35 at the Jayhawk Classic. Michael Ashley of Lincoln is 16th in the nation with a 48.31 mark. Eli Smith of Northwest Missouri has the nation’s 39th best mark running 48.86 at the Cyclone Holiday preview.
The
women’s 400m race is scheduled for a 1:25 start on Feb. 24. Donna-Lee Hylton of Lincoln is automatically qualified for the national championships with a time 54.56 which ranks her third in the nation. Michelle Cumberbatch is ranked sixth in the nation with a time of 55.10 time at the Bob Timmons Challenge. Yanique Haye of Lincoln has the third best time in the league of 55.16 which is eighth in the nation.
600 yard - The
men’s 600 yard race is scheduled to fire off at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24. The 600y is not a national championship event, however Scott Nannen of Nebraska-Kearney ran a 1:12.75 at the Concordia Classic. Neville Daley of Lincoln ran a 1:12.84 for the second best time in the league. The third fastest time on the heat sheet belongs to Ross Lorber of Central Missouri.
The
women’s 600 yard is slated for a 1:45 p.m. start on Sunday, Feb. 24. Emily Ballock of Pittsburg State ran a 1:24.77 at the OBU Bison Invitational for second in the league. Tarah Fullman has the league’s third best time running a 1:25.51 at the Jayhawk Classic. Stephanie Hutsell of Nebraska-Kearney has the third fastest seed time entering the event.
800m - The
men’s 800m run final is scheduled for a 1:55 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24. Jermaine Blake of Lincoln is currently leading the league and ranks 15th in the nation after running 1:52.63 at the Iowa State Classic. Kellen Loch of Central Missouri has the league’s second best time of 1:52.97 which ranks 22nd in the nation. Matthew Schaefer of Truman ran a 1:53.74 at the Iowa State Open, good for third in the league and 31st in the nation.
The MIAA
women’s 800m run is scheduled for 2 p.m. on the final day of the conference meet. Marissa Bongers of Nebraska-Kearney ran a 2:08.72 which automatically qualifies her for the national meet and is third in the nation. Twishana Williams of Lincoln has the league’s third best time at 2:13.19 which is 16th in the nation. Entering the event Sydney Potts has the league’s third best seed time.
200m - The
men’s 200 meters will run off at 2:10 p.m. on the last day of the MIAA Indoor Championships. Lincoln’s Romel Lewis has the eighth fastest time in the nation running a 21.50 at the Bob Timmons Challenge. Jeffrey Fraley of Missouri Southern has Division II’s 10th fastest time running a 21.58 at the Missouri Invitational. Cornell Leffler of Nebraska-Kearney has the third fastest time in the league and the 21st fastest time in the nation with a 21.76 pace.
The
women’s 200 meter dash is scheduled for a 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24. Lotoya King of Lincoln ran a 23.70 which is the nation’s top time and an automatic qualifier to the national meet. Yanique Ellington, also of Lincoln, ran a 24.60 at the Iowa State Classic which ranks her 19th nationally. Lincoln has the top four times amongst league runners in the 200m.
3000m - The
men’s 3000m run is scheduled for a 2:25 start on the final day of the MIAA Indoor Championship. Laban Sialo of Central Missouri ran 8:16.08 at the UCM Relays and is 13th in the nation. Tanner Fruit of Nebraska-Kearney has the league’s second best time at 8:20.70 which ranks her 23rd in the nation. Alex Hendee of Fort Hays State finished in 8:24.12 which is currently 28th in the country.
The
women’s 3000m run is scheduled for a 2:50 p.m. start on Sunday, Feb. 24. Twishana Williams of Lincoln has the league’s top time running a 10:15.00 at the Bob Timmons Challenge. Jordan Esry of Northwest Missouri ran a 10:18.06 at the Iowa State Classic. Kattlyn Belisle of Missouri Southern ran a 10:19.00 at the Missouri Invitational.
4x400 Relay - The
men’s 4x400 relay will close out the MIAA Indoor Championships with a scheduled start time of 3:15 p.m. The Lincoln me has the fastest time of 3:13.48 which is the fifth best time in the nation. Southwest Baptist has the league’s second fastest time at 3:16.02 which is 17th in the nation. Emporia State has a 3:17.13 which ranks 27th in the nation. Central Missouri has an adjusted time (from a 4x440) of 3:17.10 which ranks 25th in the nation.
The
women’s 4x400 relay will be the final event of the MIAA Indoor Championships scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m. Lincoln has the nation’s fastest time of 3:40.55 which is automatically qualified to the national championships. Lincoln relay teams have the top three times in the league, but the next closest team is Emporia State who ran a 3:48.40 at the Iowa State Classic which is 16th in the nation. Northwest Missouri has the third fastest team time in the league with a 3:51.19 at the Iowa State Classic which ranks 23rd in the nation.
