Nebraska-Omaha Wins MIAA Women's Golf Title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Danielle Suponchick shot a final-round 79 to earn individual medalist honors and lead Nebraska-Omaha to the 2010 MIAA Women’s Golf Championship Tuesday at Tiffany Greens Golf Club. The Mavericks finished with a two-round score of 627 (+51) to win the title by 43 strokes over runner-up Truman.
 
Suponchick’s 79 gave her a 36-hole total of 154 (+10) to finish two shots ahead of Missouri Western’s Natalie Bird and Truman’s Jen Lawson, who tied for second place. Nebraska-Omaha teammates Erin Ommen and Rebecca Pollock tied for fourth place with scores of 157 (+13) to complete the five-member all-tournament team.
 
Also announced on Tuesday was the 2010 All-MIAA Women’s Golf Team, selected by league coaches. Bird, Suponchick and Lawson earned all-conference honors along with Nebraska-Omaha’s Abbey Weddle and Truman’s Krystal Limsiaco. Ommen was named the 2010 MIAA Player of the Year, Bird was honored as freshman of the year and Nebraska-Omaha’s Tim Nelson was selected as coach of the year.
 
Truman carded a 36-hole total of 670 (+94) to finish second, followed by Missouri Western in third (676, +100), Fort Hays State in fourth (712, +136) and Northwest Missouri in fifth (747, +171).

Central Missouri Claims MIAA Men’s Golf Title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Led by individual medalist Justin Yoder, Central Missouri claimed the 2010 MIAA Men’s Golf Tournament Championship with a round of 310 Tuesday at Tiffany Greens Golf Club. The Mules, who finished with a 54-hole score of 893 (+29), also secured their second consecutive MIAA regular season championship with their fourth win in four MIAA events this season, and earned the MIAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA postseason.
 
Yoder was also a double winner with his championship performance. The senior from Versailles, Mo., carded rounds of 70, 70 and 76 to finish at even par (216) and earn the individual medalist honor by nine strokes over runner-up Dustin Yeager of Washburn. With the victory, Yoder was named the 2010 MIAA Men’s Golf Player of the Year by finishing at the top of the MIAA regular season individual standings.
 
Joining Yoder as 2010 All-MIAA selections by finishing in the top 10 of the regular season standings were Yeager, Southwest Baptist’s Brad Nipper, Central Missouri’s Ryne Kloeppel, Southwest Baptist’s Justin Sellin, Central Missouri’s Matt Miller, Missouri Southern’s Severiano Smith, Truman’s Nik Bentzinger, Missouri Western’s Daniel Crawford and Central Missouri’s Zack Van Dolah.
 
The 2010 MIAA Freshman of the Year is Washburn’s Nate Hoeflin, who was the highest-finishing freshman in the league standings this season.
 
In a vote by league coaches, Central Missouri’s Tim Poe was selected as the 2010 MIAA Coach of the Year. It is the second consecutive year for Poe to win the award.
 
Washburn, the 2009 tournament champion, finished as the tournament runner-up to Central Missouri with a three-round score of 907 (+43). Missouri Southern was third at 918 (+54), followed by Southwest Baptist in fourth at 920 (+56), Truman in fifth at 929 (+65), Fort Hays State in sixth at 932 (+68), Pittsburg State in seventh at 956 (+92) and Missouri Western in eighth at 962 (+98).
