Boyce Joins MIAA as Contributing Writer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - David Boyce will join the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) as a contributing writer to TheMIAA.com, the conference office announced Monday. Boyce is a former sports writer for the Kansas City Star, where he worked for more than 20 years.
"I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to write features and game stories for the MIAA website," Boyce said. "One of the toughest things about getting laid off from the Star was the belief that my days of writing about the student-athletes and coaches in the MIAA were over. The coaches, the athletes and the fans in the MIAA made my job at the Star so enjoyable."
"We are excited that David wants to be a part of the MIAA," MIAA Commissioner Jim Johnson said. "We feel that nobody is more qualified. David will provide a great asset to us in our ongoing efforts to upgrade the quality of our Web site and the information we provide to our fans."
After graduating from the University of Kansas in May of 1988, Boyce began writing for the Kansas City Star and continued there until March of 2009. During his time at the Star, Boyce covered high schools, boxing, area colleges including the MIAA schools, and the Kansas City Royals.
"In the last 13 years I have covered the MIAA and had the privilege to write on some very memorable games, like Northwest Missouri's incredible four overtime win in the 1999 Division II championship game," Boyce said. "The last story I wrote for the Star was Central Missouri's men's basketball team winning its regional championship game over Southwest Baptist to reach the Elite Eight."
For the 2009 football season, Boyce will write a team-by-team season preview to be featured on TheMIAA.com. During the season, he will write a weekly preview and recap of a featured MIAA Game of the Week. Boyce will also contribute feature stories on MIAA coaches, student-athletes and special events to the conference Web site.
"I'm thankful MIAA commissioner Jim Johnson presented this job to me," Boyce said. "I will do everything on my part to write interesting stories for MIAA fans. I'm eagerly looking forward to another exciting season in MIAA athletics."
