MIAA Basketball Tournament to Remain in KC
MIAA Commissioner Dr. Bob Boerigter and the city of Kansas City have announced an agreement to extend the current MIAA Basketball Championships contract and keep the event at historic Municipal Auditorium through 2014.

Gene Bartow Passes Away at Age 81
Gene Bartow, a 1987 inductee into the Truman Athletics Hall of Fame a 2000 inductee into the University of Central Missouri Hall of Fame, passed away on Tuesday, January 3 at the age of 81.

MIAA to Add Men’s Soccer
Fort Hays State University, Lindenwood University, Northeastern State University, Southwest Baptist University and Truman State University will all field men’s soccer teams in 2012. Additionally the MIAA announced that is has extended invitations to Harding University, Southern Nazarene University and Upper Iowa University to begin the process to become Associate Members of the MIAA for the purpose of playing men’s soccer in the MIAA.

James Named to Buick Human Highlight Reel
Sean James had dreams of playing in the then Big Eight, but an injury led him to a Kansas junior college and then on to Missouri Southern. Though this might not have been his initial plan, James now says that the time in Joplin helped change his life and direct him towards the path he is paving for himself today.

Western Names McGuffin Director of Athletics
Missouri Western State University President Dr. Robert A. Vartabedian today introduced Kurt McGuffin as Western’s next director of athletics. McGuffin, currently assistant athletic director/director of athletics development at the University of Colorado-Boulder, will start at Western on Oct. 31.

Fluellen Developing into Leader for Lincoln

Soccer Comes to Fort Hays State
The inaugural season for Fort Hays State men's and women's soccer began on Saturday, September 3 at the brand new FHSU Soccer Stadium, part of the new multi-million dollar Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex in Hays, Kan. After a handful of exhibition games at the stadium in late August, the first official games took place as the men hosted Adams State College and the women hosted Newman University.

ESU Football Assists Girl's Fight Against Cancer
Football teams across the country have a reputation of using rather colorful language on the field. The Emporia State University football team spent part of their training camp trying to correct this and help a young girl in her battle with leukemia. The Hornets raised $1,509.44 in the first ten days of training camp for Mikala Hodgens, the nine-year old niece of defensive coordinator Bryce Saia.

Joplin on the Road to Recovery
May 22, 2011 is a day that no person that calls Joplin home will soon, or for that matter, ever forget. At approximately 5:41 pm on that Sunday evening, what would turn out to be the deadliest tornado recorded in the history of the United States, touched down just south of downtown Joplin and proceeded to level much of the city.

Miller Named MIAA Honoree for NCAA WOTY
Emporia State's Brittney Millerhas been named the MIAA nominee for the 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the NCAA announced Thursday. Miller is one of more than 140 NCAA female student-athletes representing multiple sports across Divisions I, II and III that have been selected as nominees by their athletic conferences and by independent institutions.

UCM Places Second in Director's Cup Standings
Central Missouri finished as the runner-up in NCAA Division II in the 2010-11 Learfield Sports Director's Cup, released at the NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) Convention in Orlando, Fla. The finish is the top mark in MIAA history.

Eric Czerniewski (Central Missouri), Taylor Sibala (Pittsburg State) and Jake Soy (Northwest Missouri) are the men’s finalists, while the women’s finalists are Lindsay Lettow (Central Missouri), Molly Smith (Washburn) and Alli Volkens (Emporia State).

MIAA Announces Waiver in Regards to UNO
The MIAA has voted to waive the intraconference transfer rule for all sports in regards to UNO student-athletes. Under current MIAA rules, a student-athlete who transfers to an MIAA school must satisfy a one-year residency requirement prior to certification for competition.

MIAA Extends Invitations to Kearney, Lindenwood
Official invitations to join the MIAA have been extended to the University of Nebraska at Kearney and Lindenwood University, the conference office announced Friday. UNK is currently a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while Lindenwood is a member of the Heart of America Athletic Conference and is currently in the process of obtaining membership into NCAA Division II.

Cassondra Boston and Myles Burnsides are two of sixteen regional winners of the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, announced today. A male and female Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be selected from the 16 regional winners, eight men and eight women.

MIAA Announces 2009-10 Academic Awards
Over 1,600 student-athletes have been honored with 2009-10 MIAA academic awards, the conference office announced Friday.
Sixty-six student athletes earned the MIAA Academic Excellence Award, which is given to those student-athletes who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 4.00 and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

UCM, ESU Finish in Director's Cup Top 25
Central Missouri captured its second consecutive third-place national finish in NCAA Division II in the 2009-10 Learfield Sports/NACDA Directors Cup, released at the NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) Convention in Anaheim, Calif. The finish duplicates last year's top mark in MIAA history, which is also shared by Truman (2003-2004).

Hometown Hero Schmitz Finds Success at Truman

Two Active MIAA Coaches to Enter Missouri HOF
Northwest Missouri head football coach Mel Tjeerdsma and Southwest Baptist head men's and women's tennis coach John Bryant of the MIAA are two of 15 individuals who will be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame at its 2010 Enshrinement Ceremonies on Jan. 31. Two teams will be inducted as well.

SAAC Food Drive Brings in Over 14,000 Pounds
The MIAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee collected 14,407 pounds of donated food during its annual canned food drive held this fall. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit local organizations in the communities of the nine participating MIAA institutions.

MIAA Announces Agreement with B2 Networks
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Commissioner Jim Johnson announced Tuesday that the MIAA and B2 Networks have reached a multi-year agreement making B2 the exclusive home for broadband broadcasts of all MIAA athletics. The partnership takes effect immediately as a full slate of MIAA football games are scheduled for broadcast this Saturday to collegiate athletic fans around the world.

The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) is pleased to formally announce the signing of OAI as the official signage partner of the MIAA.
